Easy Halloween Crafts - Even a Caveman Can Make Halloween Crafts

Halloween

One of the things that make Halloween so wonderful is that you can dress up, display Halloween crafts and scare all the folks you want in the spirit of fun. Decorating your home, car or office is the first step in setting the mood for Halloween and can be accomplished with just a little patience and some creativity.

There are some quick and easy ideas to consider when making your own Halloween decorations. The great part about Halloween crafts is that many of them are kid friendly and can be made with items you find around your home.

Tissue Ghosts

For example, one of my favorite crafts is tissue ghosts.  Just take a piece of Kleenex and gather it together so that you have a "bulb" at the top with the bottom splaying out - much like a ghost would look like!  Use a rubber band or a garbage bag twist tie to secure the bulb which is the head of your ghost.  Tie it tight!  Then

take a black magic marker and dot in eyes, a nose, and a mouth and you have a Kleenex ghost.  Make several of these to hang around your house, particularly in places where your family and friends would least expect to see them!

Egg Carton Bats

Another great idea for Halloween crafts involves a simple egg carton.  That's right - you can turn an egg carton into a scary bat!  What you need to do is take three of the egg "cups" and separate them from the rest of the carton together so that they form a row.  The middle cup will be the bat face, the other two are the wings, so take a pair of scissors and cut out the front part of the cups to make wings.  If you have some "googly eyes" glue them on for a fun take, or you can simply draw a face on your bat. Then hang from a string or a rubber band and decorate the whole room with these fun and easy little bats.

Those are two ideas for Halloween crafts to get you started.  There are so many other great and easy ideas for Halloween crafts that you can try out. A good guide to keep you going is Easy Halloween Crafts.  Experiment around with these ideas to make some spooky or fun decorations that will make your home a Halloween haven with Halloween crafts that you have made yourself! Halloween Crafts For Adults - Let Your Imagination Go Wild!

Halloween

A fun activity during Halloween is to decorate your home with hand made art and craft decorations. With a little imagination, one can make wonderful decorations to beautify the house and give it that festive look during Halloween. It is not necessary to be an expert at craft making, but a little imagination and ingenuity will go a long way to succeed in this project. A quick search on the Internet for ideas on homemade decorations will speed up your imaginative powers. You can come up with some creepy looking decorations by making use of simple household items. Most often, people like to transform their homes into haunted houses.

The yard is the best place to start with Halloween decorations. You can turn it into a creepy cemetery. You can give it a ghoulish appearance by putting 'tombstones' all around it. These can be simple plywood cut out into half- spheres. Attach some nails to the bottom, or push them down into the ground so that they stand up. You can paint them black and put some scary writings on them. The lighting in the yard can also be adjusted to throw eerie shadows over the yard. A few 'ghosts' made up of white sheets tied on to bushes will do the trick. Balloon Ghosts in white with attached bells can be left to float in the breeze. Their haunting chimes may scare even the strongest hearted person!

Halloween Crafts for the indoors can be made easily. One way to get a spooky effect in the house is to drape a fine white cloth, artistically painted with a ghost face, on the windowpane. Bats, artificial cobwebs and witch cutouts can be put up on the walls or hung from the ceiling to complete the creepy effect.

Many of these crafts can be made by kids too. However, if there is a need to use power tools for creating them, it is best left to the adults to do the job. Children can be involved to do simple things like painting or gluing on glitter, beads and sequins. This can be a fun activity done together to create something unique.

Your creativity is limited only to your imagination. Use your imagination and creativity while putting together Halloween crafts. As adults, your creations will be much neater since you are now agile while using your hands. Let the kids participate as well. There is nothing better than having a family activity to bring everyone closer! Have fun and enjoy your time with the family during Halloween.

Halloween - Scary, Disgusting Masks!

Halloween

Halloween evokes pictures of ghosts, ghouls, vampires and other blood curdling creatures. It kindles awe and fright and sets the heart thumping for fear of the unknown. The words Halloween and terror have always been synonymous. In keeping with the blood curdling horrific nature of the festival, revelers don Halloween scary disgusting masks and costumes that set the adrenaline flowing.

The origins of Halloween scary disgusting masks go back to old Celtic festival. Centuries back, winters were a time for hardship. The short days of winter were scary and the Pagans were afraid of venturing out in the dark as they believed that on Halloween when the mortal world merged with the afterworld, ghosts returned to the earth hovering around and looking for new bodies to live in.

To appease the angry spirits they would light bonfires, overseen by druids, and sacrifice animals. To protect themselves they would wear masks made from animal heads and move around incognito mimicking the dead spirits so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. From this practice was born Halloween scary disgusting masks.

This practice of wearing scary masks continued for centuries till pope Boniface IV declared Halloween to be a Christian holiday. Europeans continued with this tradition to ward off evil spirits. However, celebration of Halloween was considered to be a taboo by many in America till the twentieth century. For them it was an evil holiday. However around this time to curb vandalism among youngsters, parents went back to the Celtic practice of wearing masks on Halloween, which evoked fear, disgust and awe. In 1920, the town of Anoka, Minnesota, was the first to celebrate Halloween in full masked attire.

During the Celtic age, wearing of masks was a matter of life and death as the fear of the unknown enveloped all. However, with time Halloween masks have acquired new meaning. It is today a prop for fun and entertainment. Today the most popular masks are witch masks, werewolf masks and hockey masks. Little girls mostly wear witch masks to perform tricks. They are very colourful and scary and repulsive.

The werewolf mask owes its origin to the Greek mythology. Lycoan and his fifty sons tried to entertain Zeus by offering him a dish of human flesh. A disgusted and infuriated Zeus turned them into werewolves. The legend of werewolves spread to America with the immigrants and today millions of people, particularly children wear werewolf masks during Halloween.

The practice of wearing ghoulish hockey masks on Halloween is relatively new and owes its origin to the horror movie Friday the 13th.

Today Halloween scary disgusting masks made of latex, foam, and paper mache have lost their evil connotations and no longer inspire awe and terror. They are merely part of a costume donned by people who participate in Halloween merriment. These masks of witches, zombies, vampires, demons, mummies and skeletons worn at Halloween parties retain their scary and disgusting look but no longer terrorize us.

Custom Gift Cards For Halloween

Halloween

Halloween is approaching, which means that many people are stocking up on heavy bags of candy for when trick or treaters come to their doors in costume looking for Halloween candy. However, with each year that passes, more and more parents are speaking out against giving candy to trick or treaters for Halloween.

For parents or adults that want an alternative to giving out unhealthy candy treats to costumed kids for Halloween, offering custom gift cards to your business may be a great alternative. Many gift card printing services can offer custom designs on any gift cards ordered from them, making it easy to get the business logo and a Halloween design or greeting printed on the front of the card. Offering the cards in large batches at a discount is a good way to spread your business (as trick or treaters and their parents will come into the business to redeem it) while also providing a good alternative to handing out candy for Halloween.

Some may argue that having a plastic card printing order in a small denomination may not be worth the cost; however being creative about the terms and usage can help make the order price worth your while.

For instance, a restaurant could offer packs of 10 $5 gift cards for $10; but trick or treaters that want to redeem their "treat" must have a minimum order price. Besides offering a certain price amount on the card, businesses could also have the value be for one item, such as one kid's meal or toy. In many cases, an entire family will go to the restaurant or business to redeem the card, adding to the overall total for their visit.

Besides Halloween, this may also be a good idea for stocking stuffers, Secret Santa, or other gift giving opportunities at holiday parties and gatherings. Gift givers appreciate getting bundles of gifts all at once to hand out to multiple people-- it makes their shopping experience much easier and helps them cut down on the time it takes to purchase multiple gifts or come up with ideas for gifts for several different people. Giving the same stocking stuffer also doesn't show favoritism, but instead shows equality.

For people who want variety in the types of "treats" they are handing out at Halloween, offering trick or treaters the choice between a gift card and a piece of candy may be appreciated. Parents may not want the child to get a custom gift card to a certain business.

Chilean Miner Group Halloween Costume Idea in 2010 - Homemade Outfits to Look Like a Miner

Halloween

The most popular news story over the last several weeks has been the rescue of the Chilean miners. In fact, the streaming video of the rescue was the most-watched live video in the history of streaming online feeds. With this being the case it should come as no surprise to see many Americans looking to create a homemade 2010 Halloween costume idea related to the Chilean miners. These miners have been through quite a lot and emulating them on Halloween will be a sign of respect and gratitude for the hard work they have done.

Before going out and creating a group Halloween costume it is always a good idea to get a large number of people together and decide who will wear which specific costume. When it comes to looking like a Chile miner it should not be very hard to come up with a homemade costume. By simply getting some old grungy clothes and tearing them up a little bit you can emulate the outfits that these miners were wearing when they got out of the hole.

It would also be very smart to go ahead and get a little bit dirty before the Halloween party starts as this will help to solidify the costume idea related to the Chile miners. Even though this has been a very popular news story over the last 48 hours it may still be the case that this type of outfit is very hard to find at retailers. Almost all major retailers order Halloween costume outfits months and possibly years in advance. With this story becoming a huge hit in the last few weeks it will likely be the case that finding a costume at a major retailer will be nearly impossible.

Coming up with great 2010 Halloween costume ideas is not very difficult as there has been a plethora of news stories over the last several months. Do not be surprised to see many costumes related to very popular figures that have made mistakes over the last few years. Some of these individuals could include Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and Katy Perry. One of the most popular costume ideas in early October has been the Lady Gaga Meat Dress costume but please be aware of the fact that there are going to be many people that try to emulate Lady Gaga by wearing this type of costume. Coming up with a completely unique and homemade costume may be much more important than looking like the most popular media figure.

When coming up with a Chile Miners Halloween costume idea [http://www.2010halloweencostumeideas.net/2010/10/14/chile-miners-2010-halloween-costume-ideas-for-groups-rescued-miners-outfits-for-adults/] it is important to come up with something original. Taking the time and effort to create a unique 2010 Chilean Miners group Halloween Costume could be just the costume to turn heads at this years party.

Budget Friendly Halloween Costumes

Halloween

...by observing you, children learn how to create and they learn craft. These powerful memories imprint a more important message. They come to understand the superiority of the creative tightwad method. - Amy Dacyczyn, a.k.a. The Frugal Zealot

Halloween costumes are so different today. Super heroes, wizards, and cartoon characters rule the trick or treat. It was not too long ago.....ok it was maybe a while ago......when I was a small trick or treater that costumes were much more original.

You were not likely to bump into three or four other characters that looked exactly like you. Oh, you might run into a costume of the same theme, but it would be totally unique by comparison. Of course my mom created our Halloween costumes. You can create unique Halloween costumes and save money by recycling items.

Create your own unique costumes. Remember that Halloween costumes exaggerate to be most effective. So the more accessories, the better. Some easy to make costumes using items around the house, borrowed from friends and/or relatives, or purchased for next to nothing at your local thrift store include:

  • The little old lady or man - dress accordingly in an older man's (a suit is great) or woman's clothing. A hat is a nice touch. If you don't have a real walking cane you can substitute an appropriate size stick. Add some creative face painting with lots of wrinkles of course. Be sure to add the cracking voice and a prominent limp.

  • The Hobo - Recycle some unwanted clothing. Paint on or put on patches, rip some areas (especially around the bottoms of pants, ends of sleeves, elbows and knees, since these areas show wear first). Use black or brown makeup to smudge the face a little to look un-kept. Blush the nose to look a little reddish. (hobos get cold outside) Sport the oldest pair of worn looking shoes you can find (or even better, two different shoes) and a tattered hat and you're good to go!

  • Princess - This is a timeless costume. I think every little girl wants to be a princess at least once. But don't rush out and buy the frilliest costume you see. The princess is merely an expression of elegance. As long as your little girl feels elegant she is a princess. If you don't already have a full length fancy party dress, check the thrift store for a low cost floor length party dress. Just pick one that looks "princessy." Even better, borrow one if possible.

A princess wand can be easily made with a dowel or stick and a cardboard star covered with foil. Add frills with duster feathers or ribbons if desired. Make a crown. You can easily make one using a headband and craft materials. Here's a great tip: Recycle a Burger King Crown. You know the crowns they give out to all the little kiddies at Burger King. You can cover with foil or paint and add beads or gemstones to decorate. They also make a great pattern for a crown if you want to create it out of some other material you have.

  • Animals: For toddlers: Use one piece pajamas as a starting point. An extra bonus: the pajamas are warm clothing for what is typically a cool weather night in many areas. For example.. a fuzzy white, brown, black, or even pink footed pajama can easily become a kitten, rabbit, or dog. Add a home made tail using scrap fabrics (attach with safety pin), a headband with the appropriate ears attached, or if you use a hooded outfit attach ears directly to hood), some creative face painting using home made face paint (below), and you've got a cute little costume that can be used as a comfy outfit after trick or treat!

For older children use tights or stretch pants, and turtleneck shirts, sweaters, hooded sweatshirts all in the desired color instead of the pajamas. Use desired color of mittens or gloves for paws. Bats, lions, tigers, even a skunk can be created in much the same way as the above animals!

Halloween Costume Recycling Tip: Remove the stuffing from an unwanted large stuffed animal (through a cut slit down back), launder, and use sections of fabic for costume. Or, cut a hole for the face and your toddler may be small enough to fit right in and use for hooded costume.

  • The Big Baby: This is an amusing costume for an older child. Return to the diaper zone! A bottle or pacifier, a bib, a homemade cloth diaper (over tights or pants of course), and a rattle. Add some rosy cheeks and your youngster will be ready to laugh (or cry) his/her way through trick or treat.

  • The Graduate - Have an old graduation cap and gown? If it doesn't hold too much sentimental value, you can use it to create a very simple, easy, costume. Create a fake diploma and drape it from the waist tied by a string or yarn of same color or wear like a necklace. You don't want the trick or treater to have to carry it. I've discovered these types of accessories usually end up in Mom's or Dad's hands to carry after a short time.
  • Halloween Costume Recycling Tip: Any discarded or unwanted work uniform (nursing, military, fireman, policeman) can be used as a Halloween costume.

  • The Witch - A long black dress or all over black pants with black top can be combined with a witch hat and black cape(make your own if you're crafty). Add black boots and make up face to suit.

  • Scarecrow - cut up some old jeans and a flannel shirt in scarecrow fashion. Cut sleeve ends and pants leg ends in strips to look tattered. Use straw or an old straw broom's bristles and glue or tape along inside edges of sleeves, pants legs, along bottom of shirt to appear as if bursting out of the scarecrow. Add a straw hat.
  • These are all good halloween costume ideas and I'm sure you get the picture by now. The idea is to use as many items as you have on hand to create these timeless Halloween costumes. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Don't let that little girl cry because you can't find her the purrrrrrrrrrr-fect cat costume. You can create a much nicer one from everyday items and a few craft materials. Chances are it will look more realistic than that store bought costume. As a bonus, many of the costume pieces (i.e. shirts, pants, tights, gloves/mittens) are reusable after Halloween!

    A few other Halloween tips:

    1. Use spray paints or craft paints. fabric dye, fabric paints and/or pens, to color recycled items to desired color. One year I used silver spray paint to color and entire outfit for my son's tin man costume. We recycled aluminum foil to use in making the hat and the axe. Some silver body glitter on the hands and face put the finishing touches on this costume!

    2. Use regular clothing to create an all-over color effect as with the animal costumes.

    3. Consider mittens or gloves when you need hand color

    4. A gallon ice cream bucket w/handle makes a perfect trick or treat bucket. I save these throughout the year and recycle for hundreds of other uses. Use neon paint or stickers to add bright decorations. This is a good safety technique to make kids more visible while trick or treating

    5. Make your own face paint: You will need Corn starch, Water, Cold cream, and Food coloring.

Use several different cups (custard cups, recycled single serve yogurt or Jell-O containers, a foam egg carton) Prepare 1 tsp cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon each of cold cream and water. Mix different color food coloring in each cup for desired colors

Make your own cream make up:

    2 tsp white shortening

    5 tsp corn starch

1 tsp white all purpose flour

    glycerin (get at drug store)

    Food coloring as desired

To make enough for one child's face - Use a rubber spatula, blend the first three ingredients until a smooth paste forms. Add 3/4 drops glycerin for a creamier consistency. Add coloring if desired one drop at a time blending after each drop until you have the desired shade. For easy removal use shortening, cold cream or baby oil.

Remember your Halloween safety. Here are a few, but certainly not all inclusive, reminders of safe trick or treat rules.

    1. Small children should always be accompanied by an adult.

    2. Use flashlights, bright costumes or decorations to make trick or treaters more visible.

    3. Try to frequent the same limited area each year or limit visits to friends and families.

    4. Remind children not to eat candy until they get home and have moms and dads check and approve.

    5. A safe costume should not block or restrict a child's vision or interfere with mobility. Make sure costumes are of a safe length so as not to trip the child.

Have a safe and Happy Halloween!

Scary Halloween Invitation Cards and Party Halloween Invitations For Your Spooky Party Celebrations

    Halloween

Many of the Halloween invitations available today include images of monsters and scary creatures that have come to be synonymous with October 31st. These images are great choices for almost any Halloween invitation but where did they come from? Do these frightening designs have any basis in reality? And, if they do, wouldn't that be a great story for the party host to share with the recipients of these Halloween party invitations? Below is some interesting information and facts about some of these Halloween creatures.

    Halloween Invitations & Ghosts

The most frequently seen image that goes well with printable Halloween invitations are ghosts. Many years ago the Halloween holiday got its start from the Celt, they believed it was the one true night, where the living and the dead crossed paths. They believed that the dead was able to revisit the living to scare them. However, somewhere along the way these ghostly, creature images found their way onto free printable Halloween invitations from years past. China was one of many places to first have a documented account of ghosts. When King Hsuan in 783 BC ordered that his own minister be killed, his wrongful death was said to resurrect his spirit to seek revenge and kill the king. Presently, Individuals globally have beliefs creatures and ghosts are real and among us. No matter what you believe, it doesn't keep these images from appearing as excellent Halloween invitations ideas.

A Vampire for the Halloween Invitation

One of the most well known images on invitations for Halloween is that of the Vampire. Imprinting this image onto invitations for Halloween for parties may bring in more for attendance, especially females. Vampires have been around for a long time and are very popular. Individuals have believed in creatures, especially vampires since the human race begin. A large amount of scary Halloween invitations use the image of the vampire and its Eastern European background developed many of its tales of the creature during the 18th century. Our origin and race did not adopt the more alluring and enticing persona of the vampire until the early 1800's and it stemmed many movies from then they're on. Some movies like Dracula was fashioned after the man who was named Vlad the Impaler. He was a real individual whose Transylvanian roots earned him the title of someone who inflicted great fear by his acts.

Halloween Party Invitations for the Living Dead

Zombie images are not usually the right image to use for kids Halloween invitations because they are so scary. They are very popular with us though, due to George Romero. He made the early 60's movie, Night of the Living Dead and hence zombies were popular. Studies have been actually conducted on them. Most Halloween inspired creatures are more fictional than zombies and are ideal also for Halloween invitation ideas. Zombies were a very real part of many acts of voodoo. The dead would rise and walk about on the earth at night. The studies show that zombies may have been real due to the fact of practices of powerful dual drugs that caused a person to behave as if dead. The person would rise up out of the grave, when the drugs effects had disappeared. They usually always suffered permanent damage.

The Mummy & the Free Halloween Invitations

Mummies are not as popular as they once were, but are still found as decorations on some unique Halloween invitations sometimes. They have their basing on Egypt and the Egyptian practices. In Egypt, mummification was once a very common practice and hence the fear was born. Some studies sparked the fear of being buried while still alive. The early 20's, King Tut's grave was located and inspired many fears of mummification. Directors and Hollywood producers used the ideal in their movies, therefore spreading the fear of mummies. Although a Halloween invite depicting a mummy may not be as scary, but can still be found printed on them many times and also as Halloween costumes.

Halloween Party Invitation for the Witch

Like ghosts, witches are very commonly associated with Halloween ideas, including costumes. Witches, like ghosts and vampires, have a long history with the human race, even pre-dating the ancient celebrations of this holiday. Witches are a complex subject because the term can refer to the people wrongly accused of the crime then tortured or killed during witch hunts like the ones in Salem and all over the world, to folk medicine practitioners who used herbal medicine to heal people as if by magic, to pagan nature worshippers, or to people who use magic and spells to control people, the environment, and the world. Although witches have been depicted in many ways throughout different cultures, the modern Western view likely to appear on Halloween invitations was probably shaped by the appearance of the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz film from 1939.

    How Did Halloween Begin?

    Halloween

It is believed that Halloween originated from a Celtic holiday known as Samhain, which was celebrated in Ireland and Scotland at harvest time for well over a thousand years. Samhain was the time of year (October 31st) when harvesting was completed and animals were brought from summer pastures to shelter for the winter months. At Samhain a large festival was celebrated, and fruits, vegetables, grain, and animals, were burned as gifts to the gods in huge bonfires in hope of a successful new year. It was believed that during the night of Samhain, that the dead could walk among the living, and that the living could ask the dead questions about the future year. Because they believed some of these spirits were evil, they wore costumes with animal heads to scare the spirits and protect themselves.

Christianity spread to the Celtic lands, and in the seventh century, Pope Boniface IV declared November 1st to be All Saints Day, otherwise known as "All Hallow's Day," hallow referring to sainted ones. All Saint's Day was to celebrate the holy saints and martyrs of Christianity. It is generally believed that this was an attempt to Christianize the popular Celtic holiday and diminish the importance of the Celtic ritual and the influence of their spiritual leaders, the druids. This is also how the day became known as All Hallow's Eve, or Halloween. All Soul's Day was similarly added in Christianity a couple hundred years later to celebrate the dead.

Carving out turnips and lighting them goes back hundreds of years with the holiday. An Irish legend tells of a man named Jack who tricks the devil to turn into a coin and keeps him from changing back by placing the coin next to a cross. A year later, Jack dies, but is neither allowed into heaven, or hell, so he must roam the earth. The 1800's brought Halloween to the United States with the Irish immigrants. Pumpkins were carved rather than turnips because they were large and more plentiful.

    SAMHAIN - Celtic Halloween

Something to think about on the upcoming Holiday... Halloween, celebrated each year on October 31, is a mix of ancient Celtic practices, Catholic and Roman religious rituals and European folk traditions that blended together over time to create the holiday we know today. Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity and life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. Halloween has long been thought of as a day when the dead can return to the earth, and ancient Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off these roaming ghosts. The Celtic holiday of Samhain, the Catholic Hallowmas period of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day and the Roman festival of Feralia all influenced the modern holiday of Halloween. In the 19th century, Halloween began to lose its religious connotation, becoming a more secular community-based children's holiday. Although the superstitions and beliefs surrounding Halloween may have evolved over the years, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people can still look forward to parades, costumes and sweet treats to usher in the winter season.

Halloween Kid Crafts - Spooky Craft Ideas For a Haunted Halloween

    Halloween

Halloween is the perfect time for kid's crafting projects. There are so many projects available because there are numerous Halloween icons; witches, bats, pumpkins, candy corn, the list is endless and so are the Halloween kid crafts possibilities.

    Ghost Windsock

This fun craft is useable for Halloween night and all of October. Items needed are strips of white crepe paper, preferably 8-10 of them, or an entire role of party crepe that you can cut into strips. An 18''x6'' piece of white construction paper, black construction paper, 2 long pieces of yarn, glue and scissors.

Cut out 3 two-inch ovals from the black construction paper. This will represent the eyes and mouth of the ghost. These should be glued onto the middle of the large piece of white paper. Space the streamers along the bottom of the ghost equally, preferably with no spaces. Glue the fringe onto the opposite side of the large piece of paper that the eyes and mouth are glued onto. Complete the body of the ghost by bringing the ends of the white paper together and gluing them. Near the top, cut or punch hole one hole on each side of the top of the ghost, then run the string through these to hang!

    Pumpkin Paper Plate

A list of Halloween kid crafts would not be complete without a jackolantern project. Items needed are a paper plate, orange construction paper and a black marker. Cut up the construction paper into one-inch cubes and then use glue to place them on the paper plate in a mosaic effect. Use the black marker to draw the eyes, nose and mouth of the jackolantern. Adding some green construction paper for leaves on top of the jackolantern and gluing a craft stick to the bottom makes for a perfect Halloween mask!

    Ghost Treat Holders

Items needed for this project are empty food containers (the small white box style), two pipe cleaners, black marker and 12 pony beads (black or orange). Draw a ghost face on two sides of the food container; the other two sides can be decorated with stickers of treats (candy corn, bubble gum, lollipops, etc.). Wrap one of the pipe cleaners around the metal handle adding the pony beads along the way. Use the second pipe cleaner as necessary to finish the handle.

    Mummy Bottles

Halloween kid crafts wouldn't be complete with a mummy somewhere in the mix! Items needed are an empty jar, plastic bowl of water, vinyl tape, wiggle eyes (35 mm or thereabouts), plaster wrap, glue gun and scissors. The first step is to hot glue the wiggly eyes to the jar, about ¾ of the way to the top of the jar. Cut ¼'' strips from the plaster wrap, then dip these strips into the water and attach to jar. Smooth strips with your fingers as you go along. Cover completely, but make sure to leave the wiggle eyes peeking out. One pass of the plaster wrap will be enough to let light shine through. After the jar has dried, use the vinyl tape to attach the lid to the jar. Perfectly gruesome!

Halloween Craft Ideas - Make This The Best Halloween Party Ever!

    Halloween

To have the best Halloween celebration ever, you need to have Halloween crafts and Halloween costume designs at your disposal.

Halloween dates back 2000 years ago to the Celts and their celebration of New Year which was November 1st. On the night before October 31, they believed that the lines between the living and the dead became blurred. The dead were supposed to revisit the earth on this night and cause havoc for the harvests and the food source for the people.

Today it is celebrated in many countries and the lead up is an exciting time for both children and adults. It's a fantastic way to catch up with friends to celebrate the festivities.

Decorating your house in dark sheets to look like a ghost house, running horror movies and telling scary stories are a couple of ideas for your party. Giant footprints made with reflective paint are fantastic when the lights are dim. Balls of wool can be used to make cobwebs and spray them with water to give an authentic appeal to them.

Dry ice can be used to give an eerie smoky effect to drinks as well as setting the stage for your party. Dimming the lights to a point where people can just see, is a great way of creating the atmosphere of spooky to your venue. Don't turn the lights completely off, someone is likely to hurt themselves by tripping over.

Make sure you dress up in a costume that matches your scary house. If you have decorated to appear as a ghost house, then the overall effect will be escalated if you create or buy a costume that is ghostlike.

The children can play fun games that they choose prior to the celebration. You could also run a competition to see who can collect the most treats.

The amount of treats that can be made is endless, green iced cupcakes are always a favorite at our place. Chocolate buttons showing the eyes and mouths of ghosts are a winner too. Bobbing apples in a large container always provide plenty of laughs (which Halloween is all about).

When it comes to the music, make sure you have a copy of Thriller and Monster Mash handy.

Remember that it is a wonderful celebration of all things, dark and scary in the world. Make this the best Halloween ever with a party that the neighbourhood will talk about for months.

2 Simple and Harmless Halloween Games For Children

    Halloween

Halloween is the day of fun and spooky jokes. The day is mostly celebrated with children dressing up with their favourite Halloween costumes. During the night, a small party will be thrown and when there is party, playing games will never be excluded.

Here are two very simple and harmless children Halloween games to share with you.

    1. Pass the Pumpkins

Items needed: Pumpkins, gourds, and music

This game is very similar to the musical chair game. The game involves passing small pumpkins and gourds from one children to another with the music playing on background. Someone will manage the music machine buy play and stop the music occasionally. When the music is stopped, the last child without a pumpkin is out. The play continues until there is a winner.

To start the game all children sit around in a circle. All of them will have a pumpkin except one. When the music starts, the children will pass the pumpkins around. When the music stops, all the children will stop passing the pumpkins. The children without a pumpkin will be out.

Remove one pumpkin from the balance of the group. Repeat the passing around and play the music. Each time the music stop, one child will be removed. This continues until there is a winner.

    2. Pin the Nose on the Jack-O-Lantern

Items needed: Poster board, markers, colour paper, scissor, and double sided tape.

This game is similar to 'Pin the tail on the donkey' which you most probably have played before. If you have not, here is how the game is played.

Draw a picture of Jack-O-Lantern on the poster board but leave out the eyes and nose. Use the scissor to cut out shapes of eyes and nose from the colour paper.

Attach a strip of double sided tape to back of each of the cut out eyes and nose shapes colour papers.

Blindfold one child at a time, turn them around several times. Now ask them to try to stick the eyes and nose on the picture of Jack-O-Lantern.

Baby's First Halloween Birthday - Party Favors & Other Ideas

    Halloween

Children live for birthday parties and Halloween, so it's all the more special for a child born on or around October 31. Your baby's first Halloween birthday party can be a delight for you, your baby and your guests, both kids and adults.

Trick Or Treat? Treats, Of Course!

Party favors or goodie bags for Halloween birthday parties are especially easy to put together. First off, all the favors can go in miniature trick-or-treat bags or plastic jack o' lanterns. Miniature candy bars and chocolate kisses will delight any child, but think bigger for your adult guests. Personalized candy bar wrappers on standard-sized chocolate bars are an excellent way to treat the grown ups with a reminder of your baby's first birthday. Photo key chains and travel-sized candle tins are also great ideas for party favors that are appropriate for adult guests.

No matter what type of party favors you choose, you'll want your guests to remember your baby's first Halloween birthday fondly. An easy way to turn favor bags into keepsakes is with customized birthday labels or favor tags. Ideally, you should try to order your labels and/or favor tags at the same time and from the same company you order your invitations.  This way, you can get a matching or complementary design and coordinate the look and feel of baby's first Halloween birthday party.

    Party-time is Game-time

A wealth of Halloween and birthday entertainment is available for baby's first Halloween birthday party. "Guess the number of candy corns in the jar" is a popular favorite, and the winner gets the jar of candy corn (or chocolate kisses or jelly beans). Of course, bobbing for apples has been popular in the U.S. since colonial times. Asking your guests to come dressed in costume is not only an ice-breaker, it's a great excuse for a costume contest. Pumpkin decorating, using markers and decorations instead of knives, will keep everyone busy and entertained. Of course, at the end of the party (or at the beginning), all the little ones can be assembled for a group trick-or-treat excursion.

Baby's first Halloween birthday is a great excuse to bring all your friends and family together, as well as a great opportunity to entertain both adults and children alike. Remember, a well-planned party means you'll have a great time too, and a happy host makes a happy party!

Halloween Bingo Game - Make It Yourself

    Halloween

A Halloween bingo game is a great way to get people of all ages involved in the one Halloween activity. You can find commercial Halloween bingo games or you can find games online to print out. It is much more fun though to create your own game of Halloween bingo.

You can choose to create your game on the computer using a word processor or you might choose to make one by hand using card.

There are two different types that you can make. You can have a Halloween bingo game that uses Halloween words or you can have a game that uses pictures. If you are going to use words you will need a list of at least twenty Halloween words. You then make cards that have a grid on them. The grid can be a 3 x 3 grid or a 3 x 4 grid. The words are then written in the grids with one word in each space. Make sure each bingo card has a unique combination of words.

You will also need to have all of the words written on individual cards and then placed in a bowl. A plastic pumpkin bowl or a plastic caldron are ideal for this. The caller will pick cards from the bowl and call out the word on the card.

As a word is called, the player covers the word if it is on their card. Counters or buttons can be used to cover the word. The first player to cover all of their words is the winner. Traditionally this person would call out, 'Bingo!' but in a Halloween bingo game a different word can be chosen. You might like to make the bingo word, 'Boo' or 'spooky' instead.

The other style of Halloween bingo that you can make is a picture bingo game. You will need a collection of Halloween pictures to make this game. You can find these on the internet and print them out. Alternatively, an easy way to create these cards is with Halloween stickers. Purchase sets of stickers with multiple copies of each picture and stick them onto Bingo cards. Remember to set one of each aside to go onto the cards for the caller to draw out. The caller can either say the name of the picture or can show the picture as it is drawn out of the bowl.

All ages can play a Halloween bingo game so it is great for Halloween parties of mixed ages. The little kids and the big kids can all play together. Why not get the adults to join in also!

    Spooky Halloween Superstitions

    Halloween

There's so much more to a Halloween superstitions than just trick or treating and Halloween snacks! Halloween started with a long history of superstitions, goblins and witches, and folklore and fantasy.

Halloween as we know it today, originated from a very specific history. Many countries celebrate some form of Halloween - it's simply not just a Hallmark holiday that the States came up with.

One such Halloween superstition is that in the olden days (very olden days) a woman looking for a husband would put a sprig of rosemary and a sixpence under her pillow on Halloween night. The superstition was that she would dream of her future husband that night!

What about other Halloween superstitions? Here are a few that are interesting and fun to read about (13 superstitions to be exact!)

    1. Cats You know that old Halloween superstition that says black cats are bad luck? Well, once it was believed that all cats with a black coat were actually the devil, or eaten up by evil spirits.

In the middle ages, black cats were hunted and burned on Easter. (poor little kitties!) But, today, lots of families have black cats as pets and don't give it a second thought. I guess we outgrew that superstition! Good thing too, my little kitty is black and I'd move mountains before I'd let someone come and try and hunt her down!

Here's just the opposite of the black cat halloween superstition: in Britain, they believe white cats are bad luck!

    2. Nuts Another old British Halloween superstition is, people at one time believed that Satan was a nut-gatherer, so, on Halloween night, nuts were used as magic charms.

    3. Candles An old saying was, if the flame on a candle goes out and it happens to be Halloween, then you have a ghost visiting you! I bet that was a great tactic for keeping kids "scared straight!"

    4. Witches This Halloween superstition is about those ugly witches! Here's how it goes: some people claimed that if you put your clothes on inside out and then walked backwards on the night of Halloween, then at midnight, you would see a witch riding through the sky.

Witches have such an interesting and long history, that would take a whole other website to talk about them, but some people believed that witches were the devil. Tests were devised to see if a woman was a witch or not.

Fearful crowds would throw a woman suspected of being a witch by throwing her in a body of water. If she floated, she was definitely a witch (YIKES! I guess nobody knew back then that women NATURALLY float better than men!) If she died, she was not a witch (sheesh! not a great scenario for these poor women!)

    5. Bells When you ring a bell on Halloween, all the scary, evil spirits will fly away. Does that include doorbells? Think how many get rung on Halloween night!

    6. Owls Owls hooting used to scare a lot of people. Some people believed that on Halloween, owls would dive down and eat the souls of anyone dying that night. So, if you heard a hooting owl, quickly pull your pocket out and leave it hanging. Then you'd be safe from the diving owls. (What imagination!)

    7. Celtic custom Here's a really good ol' superstition... On Halloween, a bonfire was built and watched until it went out. Then the ashes were used to make a huge circle where every family in the village would place a stone just inside the circle. the next day, if any stone was moved or damaged, then that meant someone in that family was going to die within the next year.

    8. Bats If a bat flies into your house, beware! You may have some ghosts or spirits visiting!

    9. More about bats Or, on Halloween night, if you see a bat flitting around early in the evening, then you'll have good weather the next day.

    10. And a little more about bats And, last, but spookily not least, if bats fly around your house on Halloween night 3 times, death is inevitable.

    11. Warding off evil spirits Want to rid yourself of all evil? Just walk backwards around your house three times before the sun set on halloween and that would banish all evil. (if only it were that simple!)

    12. More warding... You can bury animal bones in your front yard (I think that's against the law now!). Or, put a picture of an animal outside near your front door.

    13. SPIDERS! If you happen to see a spider on Halloween (what are the chances?) then the spirit of a loved one is watching over you. (this is my favorite superstition...)

    Harry Potter Halloween Costumes

    Halloween

J.K. Rowling took the world by storm with the Harry Potter series. This Halloween, you can enjoy the mystical world of Hogwarts and Quidditch with a Harry Potter Halloween costume. There are costumes for both children and adults, so there is sure to be something you love.

The Premium Gryffindor Robe Child Costume is the perfect starting point to create any Gryffindor character. This black velvet cloak is lined with maroon satin and features a Gryffindor crest on the front. Now, all you have to do is add accessories to become the specific character you like most. Don't worry, there is a basic robe available for adults too! The Deluxe Glasses will help you look like Harry, as will the signature lightening-bolt shaped scar. Not a great artist? No problem. The Scar and Make-up kit will help you create the perfect-looking scar. For Hermione and Ron, it's all about the hair. Make Hermione's as poofy as possible. Ron's simply has to be red; you can give red hairspray a try.

If you'd rather spend your Halloween on the Quidditch field, try the Harry Potter Quidditch Robe Super Deluxe Child Costume. These crimson robes have yellow stripes and allow you to be the seeker, chaser, beater or keeper. But don't forget your broom and Quidditch Goggles! The Firebolt is a great choice and looks like it came straight off the movie set. Now, don't forget the Golden Snitch and please defeat Slytherin at all costs!

If you'd rather be the one cursing Harry while he is trying to win the match, a Death Eater, Dementor, or Voldemort costume might be a good choice for you. The Dementor Costume for kids is super creepy. It comes with a long robe, black mask, and ribcage chest piece. Luckily, there are separate Dementor costumes for grown men and women. The women's costume comes with a long black dress, thick black belt, and eerie mask. Who knew evil could look so sexy?

Regardless of who you decide to be, you need a wand. The Harry Potter Light Up wand is great for young children, while the Harry Potter Wand is a bit sleeker and often preferred by adults. You can also get Ron's scruffy wand or Hermione's elegant wand. If you want to be anyone else, try Malfoy's wand. It looks generic enough that it could belong to anyone. Now, try to avoid the Gryffindor Ghost and his Death Day Feast. I promise the food in the Great Hall is sooo much better!

Looking to buy a Harry Potter Halloween Costume but don't want to pay the high prices? We have the best selection of Harry Potter Halloween Costumes and the best prices available! Go to Harry Potter Halloween Costumes and find your Harry Potter Halloween Costumes today!

    DIY Halloween Decorations

    Halloween

Halloween is an occasion that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. Most events and parties are for either children or grown ups. It rarely happens that all age groups can celebrate together. In this article we will focus on home made Halloween decorations and how to involve your children when making them.

Before we get started, it must be stressed that making Halloween decorations, costumes and accessories is not for everyone. If you do not enjoy using your creative talents then don't do it. It will only result in stress and arguments, you are much better off visiting an online shop that sells Halloween party supplies and getting everything delivered direct to your door. The selection is fantastic and you will save both time and money.

No matter what type of decorations you decide to make there are certain "tools" and craft supplies you will need. Any house with children will probably have most of the items already but check before you tell the kids that they will be making Halloween decorations. Items that you will need include, safety scissors, glitter glue, Halloween confetti, water soluble markers, coloured card, pipe cleaners, assorted costume accessories such as wigs and face paints.

Once you have selected a Halloween party theme, for example scary spiders, you can then start thinking about specific designs. This is where the internet comes in handy. Just do a quick search for Halloween templates and you will get a huge selection of designs including spiders, bats and ghosts. It should take no more than half an hour.

Outdoor decorations are just as important as indoor versions at Halloween. Before you finalise the items you are going to make ensure that they are weatherproof if they are to be used outdoors. There is no point making decorations if they are going to dissolve in heavy rain.

After getting all the craft supplies ready and confirming the theme you will need some firm suggestions as to what to make. In our opinion, if you do nothing else then carve or decorate a pumpkin. Halloween would not be the same without a smiling / scary pumpkin in the window. If your children are young then decorating the pumpkin rather than carving it is definitely a better choice.

Before decorating the pumpkin make sure you select one that is nice and smooth. It will help when trying to draw a design on it. Don't forget to cut the top off and scrape out the inside. When cleaning out the pumpkin leave about 1/2" on the inside. You will need the pumpkin to remain rigid.

Pumpkins do not have to last a long time. They are usually prepared the week before Halloween and are left up for a few days after Halloween night. Even so it is a good idea to apply a base coat of orange paint. This is not so important if you are carving a face on the pumpkin but if you are drawing a design then having a well prepared and smooth surface will help make you design stand out.

By the time you have got a nice smooth pumpkin and applied a base coat you will be keen to get going on the actual design. The key to success is to keep it simple. Don't go for an intricate design. Remember you just want the kids to have fun, it is not a master's degree. You may want to trace the design onto the pumpkin yourself and then let the kids crack on with the colouring.

There is no end to the number and type of Halloween decorations you can make. Another idea that is relatively easy to do is candle decorating. Just as with decorating a pumpkin get a nice smooth pillar candle in either black or orange. The bigger the better. You can then follow the same system of tracing a design onto the candle using a template downloaded from the internet. It is then just a matter of colouring between the lines. For best effect you should dig down a few mm into the candle so the design will stand out.

Halloween is a fun time of year and all the activities associated with the occasion should reflect that. There should be no pressure on the kids, they should be given the freedom to decorate as they see fit. You may end up having to do ninety percent of the work yourself, particularly when very young children are involved, but once you plan for that there should be few surprises.

If you are not interested in arts and crafts then you will not be short of alternatives. Scene setters, pinatas, and costumes are just some of the Halloween party supplies that can be easily sourced online. Even if you go down the shop bought route don't assume that the decorations will magically jump out of the box. You will still need time to get the most from them and make sure you have the scariest house in the neighborhood.

Halloween party decorations are easy to make. Just make sure you have everything prepared well in advance. Alternatively you can purchase all your Halloween Party Supplies at party-shop.ie

Halloween Birthday Invitations - Two Parties in One!

    Halloween

There's an old saying that a person who was born on Halloween can see and talk to spirits. There was also a belief that people who were born on Halloween are creepy and rather odd. But in this modern technological age, we know better. People born on this special date can be very normal, and rather sweet! Sweet enough to deserve cleverly-designed Halloween birthday invitations, certainly.

For someone who's celebrating his or her birthday on or near this favorite holiday, Halloween birthday parties are pretty much a given. You can celebrate more than one occasion with just one party! Besides the savings you could make by rolling two gatherings into one, you could make the celebrant feel more special if you acknowledge the holiday that coincides with his or her birthday, as well. Making Halloween birthday invitations would be a great way to express your appreciation for this special day.

It may be hard to find ready-made Halloween-themed birthday invitations in bookstores and stationery shops. Halloween is generally not thought of as a "happy" occasion, after all - most of the motifs used for this holiday are associated with doom and gloom. Even the colors are not so festive! Halloween-themed decor is typically done in red, orange and/or black. Not a typical color combination to find on anything related to birthdays!

So instead of going from one end of the shop to the other trying to find a design that brings the best of both worlds together, as it were, why not make your own design? Combine familiar motifs and color combos in order to come up with witty, eye-catching invitation covers. An old-fashioned Dracula-type vampire wearing a party cap, for example, is sure to be a scream. You can also have a smiling witch riding on a broomstick, ready to deliver a birthday cake! Or a few lines of cartoon bats with their wings spread out, spelling out "You're Invited!" on their bellies. A cutaway orange pumpkin lit up by birthday candles would be another good design idea.

Birthday invitations sent out on or near Halloween need not be drab. Some people choose to make out their Halloween party invitations in black or red paper, and this may work for a birthday party invitation as well. If the person you're going to throw the party for is inclined toward gothic themes, you should have no problem with sticking with dark or scary colors - but if the birthday celebrant happens to be the cheerful sort, your Halloween birthday invitations could have some glitter on them, or colorful paper, even if you're using dark-colored cards.

The Best Halloween Costume Ideas Ever!

    Halloween

The best Halloween costume ideas ever are different to each person. That's because which Halloween costume you like best is a matter of personal taste. You may like the Gothic Vampire best, while I like the Fairy. There are some costume themes that are popular every year, and some styles come and go depending on the blockbuster movies or cartoon characters that happen to be popular right now. Let's take a look at some of the classic costume styles that are popular year after year.

Superhero and Villain Halloween Costume Ideas

Superheroes and their worst Villains are always a popular costume idea for Halloween parties and trick or treating. This year Batman is popular again, and so are some of his most famous villains...The Joker, The Scarecrow, Cat Woman and Poison Ivy. Logan, of the X-Men is also pretty hot this season...we know him as Wolverine. Transformers have been a popular kids costume theme for years, but thanks to the release of their new movie, Revenge of the Fallen, they are super hot this year. Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and Megatron are the three most popular Autobot costumes for boys.

For girls and women there is Supergirl and Wonder Women to turn each of us into crime fighters with special powers that make us Super! Spider Girl costumes are also pretty popular with the ladies year after year. The really super thing about these superhero costumes is that they work for both male and female costume ideas. It's just fun to have these extra special powers and crime fighting abilities, even if it is only for one day. And it's fun to be one of those very bad guys...just for a day too.

    Celebrity Halloween Costume Ideas

If your not going to be a Superhero, you might want to dress up like a Celebrity. A celebrity like Hannah Montana are all fun dress up costumes to wear. Movie and TV stars are as close as you can get to Superheroes without actually being one. For boys there are beloved characters like Ben 10 or Dan Kuso of Bakugan are a close relative to superheroes.

For teens and adults there are some real oldies, but goodies costume ideas out there. Be nostalgic and get dressed up as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis from any of his hit movies...or from his music. There's Michael Jackson costumes with his outfits from Thriller, Bad...and the beautiful sparkling Billie Jean outfit. For the ladies, how about that beautiful and funny lady from I Love Lucy...Lucille Ball, that famous comedian from old time TV.

Then there are some adult funny costumes based on characters like the Flintstones...yep, Fred and Wilma, Barney and Betty and even Bam Bam and Pebbles are popular adult and teen costumes.

    Gothic Halloween Costume Ideas

Sometimes, it's the make up possibilities that attract us to a particular character we can dress up as. The Gothic theme is always a popular one, but this year the gothic costumes for teenagers and adults are really moving out of the stores quickly. The Renaissance goth costumes, and the cooler punkier ones, like the Gothic Fairy, the Corpse Bride and Groom or the Gothic Mummy are fun, not only to wear, but to get made up for. Very light foundation and very dark, smokey eyes are part of the gothic make up charm. Add some black nail polish, a little gray blush and some dark blood red lipstick and you've achieved the gothic Halloween look.

    Sexy Halloween Costume Ideas

Of course, if you happen to be an adult, sexy is always a hit. You can take one of those Marilyn outfits or get a Greek Goddess Venus or Aphrodite. There's a really cute lady Cop uniform and some naughty, but nice Angel and Fairy costumes. For the men, there are the classics, the Vampire and the Roman Guard and of course, the Cop if you like a man in uniform.

Fantasy and Fairy Tale Halloween Costume Ideas

The Disney Princesses, Tinkerbell, Fairy and Mermaid costumes are always big crowd pleaser for the girls and the boys, well, they have Prince Caspian, a Knight, Peter Pan and the Dragon Slayer to choose from.
The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland open up lots of costume ideas too.

    Easy Costumes For Halloween

Easy costumes are always big hits with all age groups. Togas, Scrubs or a White Lab Coat are very popular because of the ease of making them. You don't have to buy or sew to turn yourself into a Toga wearing Greek, or a Doctor or Nurse costume. Just get a sheet or a large rectangular piece of material to make your own toga or borrow some scrubs and a stethoscope from someone in the medical field.

What ever Halloween costume ideas you decide on, whether its a toga or Marilyn, or The Gothic Fairy for the ladies, and a Transformer or Indiana Jones costume for the guys, enjoy the chance to dress up and go out and have some fun.

    9 Halloween Wedding Theme Favors

    Halloween

Not everyone elects to have a traditional wedding. Some love the fun and excitement of Halloween and want to share their favorite holiday with others with a marriage ceremony. Just like those "trick or treaters" that arrive at your door, your wedding guests also deserve a special treat. Here are 9 ideas for wedding favors that you can present to your guests when celebrating your Halloween themed wedding.

    Trick or Treat Bags

Since it's Halloween, fill small paper trick or treat bags with the orange foil covered chocolate pumpkins and other candies.

    Halloween Candles

You can purchase some very interesting molded Halloween candles in a variety of shapes and sizes (like pumpkins, ghosts, haunted houses, etc.). Wrap up in orange tulle and tie with black curly ribbon.

    Cauldron of Pumpkins

Fill small, black plastic cauldrons with orange foil-wrapped chocolate pumpkins.

    Pumpkin Jars

If you're on the crafty side, make candy filled pumpkin jars. First, you'll need to collect some baby food jars. Paint pumpkins around the glass with craft paint. Cover the top with orange felt and glue two felt leaves to the top. Add a small piece of dowel, painted light brown, for a stem. Fill the jar with candies.

    Orange Net Favors

Cut 6" circles of tulle in orange and black colors. Place either candies or a small votive candle in each circle. Gather and tie off with the opposite color of ribbon. (Orange ribbon, black tulle and black ribbon, orange tulle.)

    Wizard's Wand

Buy 1" diameter dowels and cut into 12" lengths. Paint dowels a deep purple. Apply gold stickers in shapes of stars, moon and sun. Seal with acrylic sealer. Add gold and purple streamers tied to one end. Attach a favor tag with your names and wedding date that says: "The power of our love creates a magical world. Thank you for joining us in this mystical night."

    Witches Broom

Buy small straw brooms (available in craft stores). Wrap black and orange ribbon down the handle and tie a black bow just above the broom. Add some autumn colored silk leaves and dried flowers tucked in and glued around the bow.

    Pumpkin Butter

Purchases small jars of pumpkin butter. It's like pumpkin pie in a jar and it's great on biscuits and crackers.

    Miniature Pumpkin Pies

Check with a local baker to see if you could have miniature pumpkin pies made. Wrap in cellophane and tie with orange/black ribbons. Simple, unique and delicious!

Click here to view a photo of the finished Graveyard Cake.

    Method:

Bake cake according to package directions or recipe. Let cool completely.Spread frosting evenly over finished cake.

Using gel frostings, write silly spooky sayings on the top half of the Milano cookies such as "RIP", "BOO", "B.A. Ghoul", "M.T. Tomb", "Justin Time", and "Yul B. Next".

Press the cookies halfway down into the cake here and there to resemble standing tombstones.

Arrange the ghost marshmallows and candies around the tombstones.

Top with colored sprinkles or sugars.

    Serves 8-12.

    Options:

You can use other cake flavors, if you pair them with a complementary cookie topping. For example, if you use a pumpkin flavored cake, you might want to use vanilla frosting and crushed gingersnaps.

If you can't find marshmallow ghosts with the Halloween candy in your local store, you could use dollops of whipped cream instead. Remember they should be piped on just before serving, or keep the cake chilled to prevent the ghosts from sagging.

Add a couple of mini chocolate chip eyes to each whipped cream ghost.

    Variation:

Make individual ghost or tombstone cupcakes.

    Halloween in Other Countries

    Halloween

There has been a massive surge in the celebration of Halloween. Below I will explain in detail how Halloween is celebrated in some countries across the world.

Australia and New Zealand - By America's influence, there has been a tremendous increase in the celebration of this holiday. It has been reported that Halloween sales have been on exponential increase throughout the past five years. Trick-or-treating is in effect but is rare and limited only to the trick-or-treaters neighborhood. Halloween parties are more popular then trick-or-treating. On the night of Halloween, horror movies and TV episodes are aired.

Romania - Romania celebrates Halloween around "Dracula", the famous vampire. There are many costume parties that revolve around the character. It is also claimed that the spirit of Dracula lives there today because Romania was a place where many witch-trials had taken place which are reinacted by actors on Halloween.

The Netherlands - Since the early 1990s, Halloween has become increasingly popular in the Netherlands. There has been an increase in Halloween sales in the past 20 or so years. Students and children dress up for Halloween but trick-or-treating is uncommon because Halloween does interfere with the Dutch holiday, St. Martin's Day. However, on November 11, children walk around ringing doorbells hoping to receive a treat after singing a song dedicated to St. Martin which can be related to trick-or-treating in a way.

Sweden - There is quite a bit of a mix up in this country with Halloween. The Church of Sweden declares their All Saints Day on Halloween. Due to this, many Swedes are unaware that Halloween is a non-Christian holiday in English-speaking countries. Retail business organizations introduced Halloween to Sweden in the mid-1990s.

Other countries that have been increasing Halloween celebration would be Germany, Japan, and Spain. This was of course due to American cultural influence.
